Report for SDGs in Action meeting

Updated: May 22

The importance of health and mental health, addressed in Global Council 3, was escalated due to devastating impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. In response, GC 3, with its expanded 15 members met 40 times, and made considerable progress in its objectives to advance achievement of SDG 3 of the UN 2030 Agenda and UHC; catalyze partnerships to build resilient health systems based on PHC (primary health care)and CHWs (community health workers); provide advocacy for the promotion, prevention and protection of population health; specifically increase access for “those left furthest behind”.

Importantly, we identified and engaged successful innovations from the GC3 Health in Your Hands platform, in alignment with the WHO Global Action Plan and its Accelerators; had 3 global engagements (with the WHO Health Promotion conference; the Dubai Heath Forum; and the WGS 2022).

Three major deliverables include: an ongoing Working Group identifying structural constraints for governments to buy-in and scale innovations on policy, regulation and financing levels; a major volume on “Resilient Health: Leveraging Technology and Social Innovations to Transform Healthcare for COVID-19 Recovery and Beyond” in press by Elsevier with GC 3 co-editors and many chapter authors with sections on roles of all stakeholders (e.g., government, UN agencies, civil society, women youth); and a planned Health Day for COP28 to be held in the UAE.
